How to choose the best holster for your Ruger Max 9
Choosing the right Ruger Max 9 holster starts with understanding a few key variables. How you plan to carry, what features matter most to you, how your gear fits into your daily life and the interplay between individual items. The Ruger Max-9 is a compact, purpose built pistol, intended from the ground up for concealed carry in mind. So your holster should match that intention to utilize the full potential of the pistol. Look for models that support optics, offer smooth draw angles, and hold your firearm securely. A holster for Ruger Max-9 with red dot gives you the clearance and lockup needed for optic-ready setups. Likewise, a Ruger Max 9 holster with laser or red dot must provide room for attachments without compromising retention or comfort.

Best Ruger Max 9 OWB Holster

As a bonus, the holster can also be used as a regular belt holster, giving you two carry options in one.
Carry Options for Ruger Max 9 holsters
Concealed Carry
Concealed carry is the main reason many choose the Max-9. It's slim, lightweight, and easy to tuck into a variety of setups. The best concealed carry holster for Ruger Max 9 will stay hidden under your clothing while giving you fast access when you need it. Whether you lean toward appendix, pocket, or ankle carry, there's a style built for your comfort and routine.
IWB Holsters
Inside-the-waistband options are among the most versatile. A Ruger Max 9 IWB holster hugs close to the body, keeping your profile low under even light clothing. For all-day wear, choose one with breathable backing and adjustable cant to fine-tune your carry.
OWB Holsters
If comfort or range practice is your focus, outside-the-waistband is worth considering. A Ruger Max-9 OWB holster rides securely on your belt, giving you excellent access and draw control. Designs with high-ride profiles or pancake shapes can even work well under jackets.
Shoulder Holsters
A Ruger Max 9 shoulder holster frees up your waistband and distributes weight across the shoulders. It's ideal for driving, seated work, or colder months when you're already wearing layers. Look for adjustable harness systems that offer both security and ease of movement.
Pocket Holsters
For discreet carry, a Ruger Max-9 pocket holster fits easily in loose-fitting pants or jacket pockets. It keeps the gun upright and the trigger protected. A well-constructed Ruger Max 9 pocket holster won't shift around or print through the fabric.
Red Dot Holsters
If your Max-9 has an optic, a holster for Ruger Max 9 with red dot is a must. These designs offer precise clearance for tall sights and firm retention to keep everything locked in place. Whether you’re carrying daily or training at the range, secure optic fit makes all the difference.
Appendix Holsters
An appendix-style rig keeps your firearm upfront, making it ideal for quick draw and seated access. A Ruger Max-9 appendix holster should include features like a wing or wedge for better concealment and a contoured design to prevent digging during long wear.
Ankle Holsters
For backup or low-profile carry, a Ruger Max 9 ankle holster is a smart option. It tucks securely around the lower leg and disappears under pants. Choose models with reinforced padding and breathable wraparound straps for lasting comfort.
Holsters for Women
Women need holsters that adjust to different body shapes and clothing styles. A Ruger Max-9 holster for women might include flexible IWB options, belly bands, or thigh holsters, gear that stays put and stays hidden without sacrificing accessibility.
Paddle Holsters
Quick to attach and remove, a Ruger Max 9 paddle holster is great for range days or temporary setups. It sits outside the waistband and offers solid retention and adjustable cant, perfect for users who swap carry positions often.

Very well made. Custom fit for my gun. The fit is very tight but I would rather it be tight and work it in than too loose. Leather holsters should be tight at first. Although it took a month to arrive it is worth the wait and money.

This my second holster from Craft holsters for my Ruger max 9. The first was a leather holster which I like very much, but had one small issue every time I snapped it the snap would slide off the thumb safety so I would have to reach in and slide it back to safe. I decided to try the Kydex and just received it, it fits my pistol great and no more issues with the safety.
