About Ruger P89

The company known all over the world as the Ruger, with the official name of The Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. is the leading producer of firearms in the whole United States. The Sturm, Ruger designs, produces and markets a full line of various models of pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, mainly for sporting purposes, however there is also several models available for the law enforcement and military use.

This company was founded in Southport, Connecticut in 1949 by Alexander Sturm and Bill Ruger and has had long and continued success, which makes the company one of those that have its  own place among the classic names of the best U.S. gunmakers. The Ruger has manufactured over 20 million firearms for both sporting and also law enforcement use. It would not be fair if we would not mention the controversy which Mr. Ruger created with his letter to members of the House and Senate in 1989. Shortly, it is said that his letter was the basis for some parts of the legislation which was drafted 5 years later in the Assault Weapons Ban. Moreover in an interview with Tom Brokaw, Mr. Ruger said: "I never meant for simple civilians to have a 20 or 30 round magazines" and besides this he said also that "no honest man needs more than 10 rounds in his gun".

Although the company really esteeming the heritage of Bill Ruger, this company no longer stands by this way of thinking and is actively selling also the high capacity magazines to the general public.

The Ruger P89 is a semi-automatic pistol, caliber 9 mm. The P89 pistol features hard-coated, stainless barrel, aircraft-quality aluminum frames, steel slides and also polycarbonate grip panels, or optional rubber wraparound grips. Its cartridge was introduced together with the Luger semi-automatic pistol which were first adopted in 1904 by the German Navy. The Ruger P89 is an upgraded version of the P85 MKII which was introduced with a large number of new features, such as the DAO model. The Ruger produced a limited run P89X convertible model in 1992, which came with a second barrel and also recoil spring assembly which allowed conversion between the 9mm and .30 Luger calibers. In late 2007 the P89 pistol was discontinued.

The Ruger P89  exactly as the other pistols of the P-Series is short recoil–operated, locked breech semi-automatic pistol. It uses a SIG P220 type locking system and also an M1911-style tilting barrel. The P-Series were produced with a traditional double-action (DA/SA) trigger construction. This model’s decocker has no manual safety, instead, when the lever is lowered it only cams the firing pin into the slide and also drops the hammer. When the lever is released then the firing pin springs back to the normal position. The DAO models have no decocker or manual safety. All models feature an automatic firing pin safety that blocks the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled fully rearward.
