How To Choose The Best Appendix Holster For Your Colt Python - 4.25" (Post 2020)

When you're shopping for a new Appendix holster for you.Colt Python - 4.25" (Post 2020), knowing exactly what you want matters. If you've narrowed it down to a Appendix holster, you're already on the right path. Below, we’ll walk you through why this carry style might be the ideal fit, how to find the best model for your body type and setup, and what materials and add-ons to consider.

Why Choose an Appendix Holster?

Appendix holsters are designed to sit in the front of your waistband, typically between the 1 and 2 o'clock position. This carry method is favored by users who prioritize speed, concealability, and minimal printing.

Superior Concealment Up Front

Positioning the holster at the centerline of your body helps reduce printing, even under slim-fitting clothing. It also makes concealed carry easier to manage without layers or cover garments.

Fast, Natural Draw

Appendix carry gives you immediate access to your firearm, especially from a standing position. The hand naturally rests near the firearm, supporting a quicker draw compared to side or back positions.

Comfort in Movement

Modern appendix holsters are contoured to reduce pressure when sitting, bending, or driving. Features like sweat guards and padded backers help improve comfort during long wear periods.

Ideal for Vehicle Carry

Unlike strong-side holsters that shift or dig into your waist when seated, appendix holsters remain accessible and secure, even with a seatbelt engaged.

Retention Where You Need It

High-quality appendix rigs keep your Colt Python - 4.25" (Post 2020) firmly in place while allowing for a smooth, controlled draw. Most models include reinforced mouths for consistent reholstering and solid trigger guard coverage.

How to Choose the Right Appendix Holster for Your Build and Setup

Finding the best appendix holster means matching the design to your body shape, preferred ride height, and draw hand.

Body Type Considerations

Lean users often prefer slim, single-clip designs that disappear under clothing. For broader body types, a holster with a wing or wedge can help tuck the grip in, reduce printing, and distribute pressure more evenly.

Ride Height and Cant Adjustability

Look for a holster that lets you fine-tune ride height and cant angle. These adjustments help tailor concealment and comfort, especially if you carry with a tucked shirt or sit for extended periods.

Left- or Right-Handed Draw

Most appendix holsters are available in both left- and right-hand versions. Choose the correct configuration to match your dominant hand and practice consistent draw mechanics.

Additional Features

Some models include integrated mag pouches for added capacity. Others offer modular claw attachments to pull the grip in tighter. The best appendix holster is the one that supports your preferred carry setup without adding bulk.

Very nicely made holster. High quality and priced very fairly. The metal belt clip is very stiff (as they usually are) so make sure this is OK with you. Also make sure you want a closed (snap) top. This too takes a little effort. For my 4.25" Colt Pyton and the way I wear it (AIWB), the handle prints fairly hard. I may try their Kydex holster with the claw (they don't show the claw but you can order it) to see if that helps the printing. All in all, a very nice holster
