How to choose the best holster for your Sig Sauer P220

Start with the basics: fit and comfort. A good Sig Sauer P220 holster should hug the gun tight without rubbing you the wrong way when you move. Make sure it’s molded for the P220, not just any full-size pistol. That keeps it secure and stops it from shifting or printing through your shirt. Think about where you’ll wear it most. Walking all day, sitting in the car, or working long hours? Your holster needs to keep up without bugging you. Materials play a part too. Leather softens and forms to your body over time. Polymer holds its shape better when things get wet or dusty.

Best Sig Sauer P220 IWB Holster

The steel clip design is perfect for those who dislike removing their belt when attaching or detaching the holster. Best Sig Sauer P220 OWB Holster

Open Top Belt Holster – $89.  The Open Top Belt Holster is an excellent choice for those seeking easy access and a quick draw. Its pancake design provides a slim, low-profile fit, ensuring that your Sig Sauer P220 remains concealed even in an OWB carry position. This holster is not only practical but also extremely comfortable for daily wear.

Best Sig Sauer P220 Shoulder Holster

Shoulder Holster System – $215. For shoulder holster fans, the Shoulder Holster System is the best option for the Sig Sauer P220. This leather shoulder system allows you to carry your gun in a horizontal position, secured with a thumb break strap for added safety. The system includes a double ammo holder and tie-down straps that attach to your belt, offering excellent balance and security. As a bonus, the holster can also be used as a regular belt holster, giving you two carry options in one.

Carry Options for Sig Sauer P220 holsters

Concealed Carry

The Sig Sauer P220 isn’t the easiest gun to hide, but it can be done. A Sig Sauer P220 concealed carry holster should pull it close to your body to cut down on printing. Comfort matters, especially when you're seated or active. Look for padding and a sweat guard so it doesn’t get sticky or poke at you. If your outfits change a lot, adjustable retention can help you dial in the right feel.

IWB Holsters

Inside-the-waistband works well when you want to keep things discreet. A good Sig Sauer P220 IWB holster lets you reach the grip fast while tucking the slide in tight. Slim belt clips help with stability without digging into your side. Appendix carry might work if your frame allows for it, but most folks find the 4 o’clock spot easier to manage.

OWB Holsters

Outside-the-waistband makes more sense when you're wearing jackets or bulky clothes. A dependable Sig Sauer P220 OWB holster should yield you quicker access and a solid draw. For winter carry or time at the range, this setup hits the mark. Just make sure it hugs your belt and doesn’t flop around.

Shoulder Holsters

Shoulder carry spreads the weight and frees up your waistband. For long drives or all-day wear, a Sig Sauer P220 shoulder holster can take the pressure off your lower back. Balance is key, so choose one with spare mag holders on the other side. Drawing takes more practice, but if comfort is your top concern, this setup earns its place.

Duty Holster

When you're in uniform or need serious retention, a Sig Sauer P220 duty holster steps up. Level II or III retention gives you peace of mind when you're moving fast or working crowded environments. Whether it's belt-mounted or drop-leg, it should line up naturally with your draw and handle the weight of the gun plus gear without shifting around.

Light Bearing Holster

If your P220 wears a light, don't jam it into a standard holster. A Sig Sauer P220 light bearing holster should cradle both gun and light so nothing feels forced. Test the retention and draw stroke if you can. This setup makes sense for low-light patrols, home defense, or anyone who keeps a light on full time.

Pancake Holster

Want something that rides tight but stays comfortable? A Sig Sauer P220 pancake holster might be the one. These wide-profile holsters sit flat against your belt so you can carry outside the waistband without drawing attention. Go for leather if you want it to mold to your shape over time. It’s a smart option when you want secure and subtle at once.

Summary

You carry a full-size pistol like the Sig Sauer P220 for a reason. Whether it’s part of your job, your personal defense plan, or just what feels right in your hand, the holster has to keep up. A Sig Sauer P220 duty holster brings the structure and retention you need for daily shifts. If you’re set up with a weapon light, a light bearing holster keeps everything locked in without getting bulky. For all-day comfort without giving up stability, a Sig Sauer P220 pancake holster rides close and spreads the weight. Each setup has its moment. Some days call for deep concealment, others for open carry with fast access. No matter how you carry, the right Sig Sauer P220 holster should feel like part of your routine, not something you’re adjusting all day. Focus on comfort, fit, and how it handles during your regular day. That’s what makes the difference.

I like the craftsmanship, however, my Sig P220 .45 doesn’t fit in far enough to close the thumb snap. I didn’t see different options for P220’s.

I've been in law enforcement for 33 years & gone through a lot of gear. This holster is leather so it might not fit your weapon right out of the box. Spray a dab of lubricant on the weapon & patiently work it into leather will work fine. The holster is built to last & has the durability I'm looking for.

I had been using a kydex IWB holster for the past 3 years. It was a good holster, with decent retention. It worked. After purchasing this holster, I’ll never go back. Much better retention and so comfortable I hardly notice it’s there. My old holster was mildly uncomfortable, borderline painful for working 10-12 hr shifts. Best IWB holster ever….and it has a thumb break. Love it.
