How to choose the best holster for your Sig Sauer P226

Start with how you carry. If your Sig Sauer P226 is your daily carry gun, comfort matters as much as retention. You want a holster that hugs your body, stays put, and doesn’t print under your shirt. Look for strong clips or loops that don’t slide around. Make sure it’s molded exactly for the P226 because generic fits don’t cut it. Your use matters too. Is this for concealed carry, range days, or duty use? A Sig Sauer P226 duty holster will need active retention. For daily CCW, you’ll probably lean IWB. Appendices are great for fast access, but only if they’re shaped to avoid pressure points. Red dot? Light attachment? Those change everything, so your holster has to be built around them.

Best Sig Sauer P226 IWB Holster

IWB Holster w Steel Clip – $89. This leather holster can be carried both IWB and appendix style, offering flexibility in how you choose to carry your Sig Sauer P226. The steel clip design is perfect for those who dislike removing their belt when attaching or detaching the holster. It also features a reinforced thumb break strap, adding extra durability and increasing the holster’s natural retention, making it a highly secure option.

Best Sig Sauer P226 OWB Holster

Open Top Belt Holster – $89.  The Open Top Belt Holster is an excellent choice for those seeking easy access and a quick draw. Its pancake design provides a slim, low-profile fit, ensuring that your Sig Sauer P226 remains concealed even in an OWB carry position. This holster is not only practical but also extremely comfortable for daily wear.

Best Sig Sauer P226 Shoulder Holster

Shoulder Holster System – $215. For shoulder holster fans, the Shoulder Holster System is the best option for the Sig Sauer P226. This leather shoulder system allows you to carry your gun in a horizontal position, secured with a thumb break strap for added safety. The system includes a double ammo holder and tie-down straps that attach to your belt, offering excellent balance and security. As a bonus, the holster can also be used as a regular belt holster, giving you two carry options in one.

Carry Options for Sig Sauer P226 holsters

Concealed Carry

When you’re tucking in your P226 for everyday carry, the setup needs to disappear under regular clothes. A Sig Sauer P226 concealed carry holster should feel stable without shifting when you walk or sit. Look for something slim, with good retention and a ride height that suits your body type. Some people like a Sig Sauer P226 concealed holster with a slight cant for comfort and speed. If you're wearing it all day, padding or a sweat guard makes a real difference, especially in warmer months.

IWB Holsters

Inside-the-waistband holsters keep your P226 tight to the body. A good Sig Sauer P226 IWB holster won’t pinch or dig, even when you’re seated. It needs a solid clip and adjustable cant so you can set it just right. Slim builds and claw attachments help minimize printing, especially if you wear fitted shirts.

OWB Holsters

Outside-the-waistband holsters work better when concealment isn’t top priority. You’ll get quicker access and better comfort, especially during long wear. A molded Sig Sauer P226 OWB holster should ride close enough to stay low-profile under a jacket. Paddle-style backs can make it easier to take on and off without removing your belt.

Shoulder Holsters

Shoulder rigs are ideal for winter layering or long drives. A Sig Sauer P226 shoulder holster distributes weight across your back, making it easier to carry all day. It works well if you spend hours seated or want to pair it with a jacket. Make sure the straps are balanced and don’t shift when you move.

holsters with light

If your P226 wears a light, standard holsters won’t cut it. You need a Sig Sauer P226 holster with light that’s molded to fit the exact setup. A loose fit risks snagging or poor retention. Whether it’s a TLR-1 or X300, match the holster to the light model so everything stays locked down. Great for low-light carry or duty use.

duty holsters

Duty setups need security. A good Sig Sauer P226 duty holster has level II or III retention and won’t let go unless you want it to. Look for rugged materials, reinforced openings, and belt mounts that don’t budge. If you're on your feet all day or moving a lot, that kind of reliability really matters.

paddle holsters

Want something easy to put on and take off? A Sig Sauer P226 paddle holster slides over your belt and locks into place without threading loops. Perfect if you're training, at the range, or switching setups often. Just make sure it doesn’t wobble. Tight fit is still key.

left handed holsters

Lefties need gear that’s actually built for them. A true Sig Sauer P226 left handed holster isn’t just a reversed mold. Controls and draw angle have to feel natural. Make sure retention works the right way, and the grip clears clean on the draw.

appendix holsters

Appendix carry demands the right shape. A Sig Sauer P226 appendix holster should have a slim build, smooth edges, and a ride height that lets you draw without adjusting your belt. Built-in claws or wedges help angle the grip inward, which keeps it more discreet under a shirt.

red dot holsters

Running an optic? Your holster has to clear it. A Sig Sauer P226 red dot holster has a raised or open cut near the slide, so the sight doesn’t catch. That matters for both draw speed and protecting your optic from damage. It should still cover the trigger and stay secure, no compromises.

pancake holsters

Classic doesn’t mean outdated. A good Sig Sauer P226 pancake holster should mold to your body and breaks in over time. The wide spread of the pancake design helps it ride flat and stable. Great under a jacket or for casual OWB carry. Just be sure it’s made from thick, quality leather. It should feel like a real tool, not a costume piece.

Holster arrived very quickly. I’ve ordered holsters from other companies and have had no problems with fitment. I’m disappointed with the holster just received as it does not fit the firearm.

This is not my first purchase from Craft. This one was for my P226 and as with all prior purchases it was perfect. Tight, as it should be but after applying denatured alcohol on the inside then placing my weapon in a plastic bag and inserting it into the holster I let it sit for a little over 24 hours. Once the bag was removed the weapon fit perfectly. Note - when using the method above you need to first and foremost ensure the weapon is unloaded because when you insert the bag covered weapon it takes a good amount of force to do it but you must ensure the weapon is fully seated to ensure the holster forms properly.
