About FEG Walam 48
FEG (Fegyver- és Gépgyár, "Arms and Machine Factory") was founded in 1891 in Csepel (now a part of Budapest). The company has not been always solely dedicated to arms manufacturing as has been involved in the manufacture of gas equipment, water heaters, diesel engines,lamps and various metalware. FEG started producing Walther PP/PPK clones in the late 1940s.
The FEG Walam 48 is a 9mm short semi-automatic pistol made by Hungarian company (Fegyver- és Gépgyár, "Arms and Machine Factory") which was founded in 1891 in Csepel (now a part of Budapest). The pistol was adopted by the police in 1948, hence the 48.M designation. The original Police Contract was 22000 pistols, from that number about 11,500 went to the National Police, 10,000 went to the Vám- és Pénzügyőrség (Border and Bank Guards) and 450 hard-chromed pistols went to the high ranking police officials. The FEG Walam 48 is a blowback action design type. The construction of this pistol is entirely steel metal finished with polymer grips. Sights are slide integral blade front and dovetailed square notch rear that is drift adjustable only for windage, mounted on a checkered serration integral rib. Safety is left side slide, for right handed shooters, and serves as a decocker. The FEG Walam 48 is a single stack pistol with 3.94” barrel length two piece with six groove 1:9.45 right hand rifling, designed for both steel case and brass case ammunition. Its magazine holds up to 8 rounds of ammo. Chambering is .380 ACP caliber, or 9mm Browning Short in European lingo.
