About Springfield 1911 (w Rail) - 5"
The original institution was founded in 1777 by the direct order of George Washington in Springfield, Massachusetts. The purpose was to store revolutionary ammunition and gun carriages for a rising nation. The Armory began producing arms in 1794 and had been producing them until 1968 when the U.S. Government closed it.
The Springfield 1911 with rail 5in barrel belongs to the series of 1911 models that Springfield manufactured in 1985 and is based on the 1911 pistol model, which was first manufactured in the year 1911 and had been a sidearm for the United States Armed Forces until 1986. Springfield revolutionized the design and set a new standard for the 1911 series. There are many variations of this classic sidearm, with various calibers, barrels, widths, weights etc. Springfield Armory inc. offers 9 variations of this model.
