Clip On Holsters
Clip on holsters are most frequently used for inside the waistband carry. A clip on holster means that your holster is attached to your belt via a clip on the back side of your holster. This way of attachment is very convenient and quick as you’re not required to take your gun belt off when mounting the holster.
Clip holsters are usually used with the most popular carry guns such as the SIG P365, Glock 43X, or Springfield Hellcat. The reason for this is that clip holsters only come with one attachment point, which means carrying a larger firearm in a clip holster could result in the loss of stability of your gun on the belt. However, if your clip holster is attached to a well-made gun belt, you can use it even for mid and full-sized handguns. While the slip-on design of clip holsters is very convenient, these holsters are usually thicker, which means they might be less comfortable to carry than holsters with belt slots and belt loops.
Concealed carry clip holsters are usually attached to the 1 o’clock belt position, which means they are ideal for appendix carry. Appendix clip holsters are very accessible and they also make your gun extremely secure. There are also custom clip-on holsters with an extra magazine pouch, which makes them an excellent 2 in 1 carry option.
Clip on holsters are usually made of leather and kydex. Custom leather clip holsters are always molded to fit the exact specs of your semi-auto or revolver, granting them a perfect, glove-like fit. There are also suede clip-on holsters, which are made of natural leather. This type of a clip holster is slightly more comfortable to carry as the material is very soft. Kydex clip holsters are also not uncommon, especially among younger shooters or armed professionals.
Clip on holsters can also be used for outside the waistband carry. Unlike IWB clip holsters, clip holsters for open carry are most frequently attached to one’s dominant side, which means the 3 or 4 o’clock belt position. The reason why OWB clip-on holsters are not that common is because holsters with belt slots or belt tunnels are more stable on the belt, making them a better choice for bigger handguns such as the 1911 or Beretta APX. All in all, holsters with clips are your best choice if you’re looking for an easy attachment of your carry set or extra security for your handgun.
