The Story of Springfield Holsters

The original institution was founded in 1777 by the direct order of George Washington in Springfield, Massachusetts. The purpose was to store revolutionary ammunition and gun carriages for a rising nation. The Armory began producing arms in 1794 and had been producing them until 1968 when the U.S. Government closed it. The Armory was a supplier for every major conflict that America had and also was the birthplace of many unique firearm concepts. The original site is now a National Historic Site, which continues preserving the technological tradition and innovative approach of the Springfield Armory, and apart from this, also houses one of the largest weaponry collections. In 1974 the company’s name was licensed to Robert Reese and thus Springfield Armory inc. has been formed. It is no longer located in Springfield; the current base is in Geneseo, Illinois. The company takes pride in preserving the philosophy of the predecessor and produces semi-automatic versions of the M1911 pistol, the M1 Garand and the M14 rifle, whilst expanding their production portfolio with new weapon models and materials at the same time.
