Kydex is a synthetic thermoplastic PVC material that has been introduced to the market and is rapidly gaining popularity. Its strengths are rigidity, formability, chemical resistance and good interior finish rating. It can be thermoformed, post formed, brake formed and laminated. The material offers great retention, mainly because the temperature-molded plastic creates a slot in which the trigger guard can slide. Kydex holsters are resistant to temperature changes, which means that they don’t shrink or expand and thus don’t change the ability to retain the weapon. Kydex holsters are water resistant, sweat resistant, and wear resistant. You don’t have to ‘break – in’ the holster, once it’s taken from the package it can be used immediately. When the holster is used and starts to show signs of wear it can be easily re-fit via the retention screws.
