About S&W K Frame
Smith & Wesson is a producer of various firearms based in the United States. It has quite long tradition in manufacturing of high quality firearms of a worldwide success. Its corporate headquarters is based in Springfield, Massachusetts in the USA. The S&W is offering a wide range of various products, such as shooting and field rests, gunsmithing tools, hearing protection, gun vises, vault accessories and ammo tumblers.
This company has introduced even over 300 variations of accessories products. This company, currently known as the Smith & Wesson was founded by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson. Leaders of the Smith & Wesson had to faced with their financial difficulties, however they were forced to sell their company to a shirt producer by the name of Oliver Winchester. In 1866, using the original lever action design created by the Smith & Wesson, Winchester’s company emerged as the famous Winchester Repeating Arms Co. The Smith & Wesson formed their second partnership in 1856 to manufacture a small revolver which was designed to fire the Rimfire cartridge they patented in 1854.
The Smith & Wesson secured their patents for the revolver to prevent other producers from producing a cartridge revolver what was giving the young company a very lucrative business. Actually, the two most important customers for the new revolver were the United States Cavalry, that purchased 1,000 units for usage on the Western Frontier and the Russian Imperial Government.
The K-frame revolver line is one of Smith & Wesson’s most enduring designs that has been in the market since the 20th century. The typical K-frame representative is well-suited to be a service pistol for the law enforcers or a mid-sized revolver for common users as well. The caliber options that have been introduced with the K-frame series are .38 Special and .357 Magnum. All in all, the K-frame revolvers can be separated into these series:
The original Military & Police K-frame revolver with fixed sights and no undelug or shour around the ejector. The Combat Masterpiece are almost identical to the Military & Police but they have an adjustable sight. The Combat Magnum, which are .357 Magnum versions of the Combat Masterpiece, they have a shrouded ejector rod as standard. The Target Masterpiece, which have adjustable sights and typically offer a 6-inch barrel, but they have 4 and 8-inch barrels as well. The Alloy K-frames, which are the only non-steel K-frame revolvers. They are lightweight and have been offered as special editions, there are not many in the market up to this day
