About Kahr P9
Although the Kahr Arms does not belong among the largest firearm manufacturers on the international market, however it is a quite successful company, with plenty of satisfied customers. Most of the Kahr pistols lovers are from the US. This American small arms manufacturing company was founded by a Korean businessman Kook Jin "Justin" Moon, who is currently a CEO of the Kahr Arms. Kahr is focused on manufacturing of compact and mid-size semi-automatic pistols which are usually chambered for popular cartridges, such as the 9mm Luger, .380 ACP, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
The Kahr pistols have polymer or stainless steel frames, single-stack magazine, and double-action, only striker firing actions. The action of the Kahr Arms is a Browning locked-breech design featuring a striker-operated firing pin with a firing pin safety which is passive, what making it a true hammerless action. The trigger bar immediately begins to rotate a double-lobed cocking cam when the trigger is pulled. The cam as one begins to draw the striker to rear and compressing the spring behind it, while depressing and deactivating the firing pin block. At the end of the trigger's move, the lobe contacting the striker slips off the striker and releases that, other lobe has, by this point, thoroughly depressed the firing pin block and permitted striker to snap forward and strike the primer. The single piece takes the place of fragile and more complicated designs used in other models.
Justin Moon was awarded for this innovation one of the five patents he owns on the Kahr pistol design. The system is used on all the Kahr models, regardless of caliber, frame material or size.
The Kahr P9 model as well as the most of the Kahr pistols is semi-automatic, striker-fired, locked-breech design and relying on a modification of its Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug just above the chamber, locking the barrel into the roof of the slide. Basically, although the trigger of the P9 model is designated as a double-action only by the manufacturer, its operation is actually very similar to the Glock, Springfield Armory XD and S&W pistols. True double-action only triggers are designed to thoroughly cock and fire a the pistol, allowing for a re-fire operation on a miss-fired round even without racking the slide. Like the other mentioned models, the Kahr P9 triggers use a slide-assisted cocking action that removes much of the weight and length of the trigger pull. The result of this construction is that the trigger cannot cock the striker on its own, that is functionally much more like a single-action trigger system. Maximum magazine capacity of the P9 is 7 rounds. The Kahr P9 is chambered with 9×19mm ammunition and it is the original model of the P pistol line. Exactly like the other models the P9 comes in two main styles. The first one is the all matte black and the second one is the black frame with a stainless slide. Both of these styles come standard with drift adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights, however can also be purchased with drift adjustable tritium night sights. The P9 line offers high quality and also reliability in a compact thin package. Other important features include a Lothar Walther 3.5 inches polygonal rifled match grade barrel, stainless slide, smooth DAO trigger and option for night sights. This compact size Kahr pistol is available only in 9mm and offers excellent balance in the hand.
