About Kahr P45
Although the Kahr Arms does not belong among the largest firearm manufacturers on the international market, however it is a quite successful company, with plenty of satisfied customers. Most of the Kahr pistols lovers are from the US. This American small arms manufacturing company was founded by a Korean businessman Kook Jin "Justin" Moon, who is currently a CEO of the Kahr Arms. Kahr is focused on manufacturing of compact and mid-size semi-automatic pistols which are usually chambered for popular cartridges, such as the 9mm Luger, .380 ACP, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
The Kahr pistols have polymer or stainless steel frames, single-stack magazine, and double-action, only striker firing actions. The action of the Kahr Arms is a Browning locked-breech design featuring a striker-operated firing pin with a firing pin safety which is passive, what making it a true hammerless action. The trigger bar immediately begins to rotate a double-lobed cocking cam when the trigger is pulled. The cam as one begins to draw the striker to rear and compressing the spring behind it, while depressing and deactivating the firing pin block. At the end of the trigger's move, the lobe contacting the striker slips off the striker and releases that, other lobe has, by this point, thoroughly depressed the firing pin block and permitted striker to snap forward and strike the primer. The single piece takes the place of fragile and more complicated designs used in other models.
Justin Moon was awarded for this innovation one of the five patents he owns on the Kahr pistol design. The system is used on all the Kahr models, regardless of caliber, frame material or size.
The Kahr P45 is a semi-automatic, striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of its Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug just above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of its slide. Actually, although the trigger is designated as a double-action only, marked DAO, by the manufacturer, the operation of the P45 is actually similar to the Glock, Springfield Armory XD and S&W M&P pistol models. The true double-action only triggers are designed to thoroughly cock and fire a pistol, allowing a re-fire operation on a miss-fired round without racking its slide. As the other models mentioned, the Kahr triggers use a slide-assisted cocking action that removes much of the weight and even the length of the trigger pull. The result of the P45 model is that the trigger cannot cock the striker on its own, which is practically more like a single-action trigger. The cartridge of the Kahr P45 model was developed by a well-known gun designer John Browning. In 1911 this cartridge was adopted by the United States Ordnance Department together with the Colt-Browning automatic pistol. It has also become the official military handgun, using by several different governments, such as the Mexico, Argentina and Norway. The Kahr P45 is designed with the 45 Automatic cartridge what is probably the most powerful military handgun cartridge in use today. It’s a quite heavy and powerful sub-sonic round. Its polygonal rifling surely contributes to the accuracy of the Kahr P45. Of course the Kahr is not the only manufacturer which use this kind of rifling, however this model is anyway very well designed. The Kahr’s pistol has a passive striker block, and there is no magazine disconnect, so the shooter, as with any other pistol, must be sure to clear the chamber after pulling its magazine. That’s a common practice to insure there will not be a negligent discharge. Fitted with drift-adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights, the P45 is slightly over an inch wide at its widest point, and this pistol weighs 18.5 ounces. This model is equipped with a stainless steel magazine which weighs two ounces.
