About HK P7
Heckler & Koch is a German company that manufactures handguns, military rifles, submachine guns, and grenade launchers. It’s story began after WW II. when the former designers of Mauser pistols started a machine tool plant in the former arms factory. They had responded to the need of the West German Bundeswehr in 1956 and their need of firearms and built the G3 rifle, which was based on the design of the Spanish CETME rifle. Upon the production, Heckler & Koch began developing new arms. In 1974, Heckler & Koch diversified into two business areas: HK Defense and Law Enforcement Technology and HK Hunting and Sports Firearms. Since then the manufacture of HK designed over one hundred new types of firearms which are used worldwide to the satisfaction of civilians, law enforcers and military. Heckler & Koch have received many contracts and one of them was a contract for the US Military to produce the kinetic energy subsystem, which they successfully done. In 2004, Heckler & Koch was awarded a major handgun contract for the Department of Homeland Security, for up to 65,000 handguns. This contract ranks as the single largest handgun procurement contract in US law enforcement history. Heckler & Koch are now selling firearms to the American market and have three locations, Virginia, New Hampshire and Georgia.
The HK P7 had been produced in series from 1979 until 2008. The The HK P7 pistol is also well known as the "squeeze cocker". The "squeezable" section of the pistol was a front grip that allowed to be carried safely with a round in the chamber. In the next years, the Heckler & Koch Company with an updated version of the P7, called P7M8. The P7M8 was featured with a relocated release of magazine ("American" style instead of "European" style), a larger trigger guard and a heat shield inside the trigger which included the gas- delayed cylinder. This model has been widely used by the New Jersey State Police up to these days. There were another variants of the The HK P7’s breed such as P7M13. The P7M13 contained double stack magazines with 13 rounds. Last version of the P7 was the P7M10 chambered with more power .40SW cartridge, which was revealed in 1991. The original P7 model is of overall length of 6.5”, a barrel length of 4.1” and weights 785g.
The The HK P7 version was made with gas-delayed blowback system that maintained great accuracy, but also required more frequent cleaning of the inner parts. It had no manual safeties. It used a striker-fired mechanism, which was cocked for the first shot and for all further shots. Sights of the pistol integrated the classic easy-to- see three white dots. The The HK P7 was firstly manufactured just by H&K; later on under license by the Greek defense firm Hellenic Arms Industry and by the Mexican Department of Military Industry as a sidearm for general officers and staff as well. This model used to be exported to many different countries. The handgun is known for its low barrel and slim profile, which makes it more precise, reliable and easily concealable with a strong basis of the following shooters.
